Bloom Energy (NYSE:BE) +46.6% in early trading Friday after it signed a supply agreement with American Electric Power (AEP) for up to 1 GW of its solid oxide fuel cells, which it said is the largest-ever commercial procurement of fuel cells in the world.

American Electric Power Co. will use Bloom Energy Corp. fuel cells to supply data centers, providing a quick solution to add power as the utility industry struggles to meet rising electricity demand.

Bloom Energy has signed a supply agreement with American Electric Power (AEP) for up to 1GW of its solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). AEP has placed an initial order for 100MW of cells, with an expansion order expected in 2025. AEP will colocate the SOFCs at AI data center sites to help support the installation's immediate power needs.
