Major League Soccer (MLS) apologised on Thursday after saying Celtic's Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi had signed for Atlanta United when in fact it was his compatriot Cayman Togashi who had joined the U.

Kyogo Furuhashi came off the bench as Celtic beat Dundee United on Wednesday evening. The Japanese striker replaced Adam Idah in the second half in the 2-0 win. However, after the game it emerged that the Official MLS Soccer website had posted an article claiming that Atlanta United had acquired Kyogo from Celtic, which they quickly deleted.

Celtic and Kyogo Furuhashi receive an apology from Major League Soccer after they wrongly claim that the Japanese striker had joined Atlanta United.

Major League Soccer apologized on Thursday for posting an erroneous story on its website with the wrong name of a player that was purportedly being transferred to one of its clubs.

A news released published on the MLS website claimed that Atlanta had “acquired” Kyogo before it was deleted. The US club, who are managed by former Celtic boss Ronny Delia, had previously been linked with the 29-year-old Japan international Kyogo.

Major League Soccer was forced to apologize after its website published the name of a player it incorrectly claimed was joining Atlanta United. A story posted Wednesday indicated that Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi would be coming stateside to play for Atlanta,
