Indian stock market benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty 50, rebounded over one per cent in intraday trade on January 28, following two days of losses, driven by strong buying in banking and financial stocks.

The S&P BSE Sensex gained 226.85 points to close at 76,759.81, while the NSE Nifty50 added 86.40 points to end at 23,249.50.

In the broader market, both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices outperformed the benchmarks, rising 0.7 percent each.

Indian benchmark indices extended the selloff on Tuesdays and are poised to close at the lowest level since the June crash. The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 824.29 points, or 1.08 per cent, to 75,366.17. The broader Nifty 50 tanked 263.05 points, or 1.14 per cent, to close at 22,829.15.

Indian equity markets started Wednesday’s session on a strong note, opening with a gap-up. The NSE Nifty 50 jumped 74.40 points, or 0.32%, to 23,031.65 at the opening bell, while the BSE Sensex gained 288.21 points, or 0.38%, to begin trading at 76,189.62.
