Authorities said at least 24 people have died in flooding around Kerr County, Texas, and officials are still performing water rescues.

At least 59 people have died after heavy rainfall caused flash flooding in parts of central Texas on Friday, authorities have said.

As the death toll from catastrophic flooding in the Hill Country comes into clearer view, Texas politicians, the Dallas sporting world and celebrities shared their sorrow across social media and appealed to their followers to aid the storm-battered region.

Gov. Greg Abbott said there are at least 68 people dead in Kerr County, including 40 adults and 28 kids, after flooding hit central Texas. Ten children from Camp Mystic and one counselor are still unaccounted for.

Flood watches have been issued by the National Weather Service until at least 7 p.m. CT July 6 in Hill Country and along the I-35 corridor. The Weather Prediction Center added that scattered thunderstorms are likely to drop "torrential downpours over sensitive soils across parts of the Texas Hill Country."
