The families of eight people murdered in Pike County may get some resolution Friday. Jake Wagner and his mother, Angela, are scheduled to finally be sentenced for their roles in the 2016 massacre. Jake and Angela pleaded guilty in exchange for the prosecution dropping the death penalty specification against all four family members.

Edward “Jake” Wagner, his mother, Angela, and his grandmother, Rita Newcomb, were all sentenced Friday for their part in the 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families in Pike County. Jake pleaded guilty in 2018 to the murders.

Court records show Billy's trial is still scheduled to begin on January 6, though it's unclear whether this is still a date the court can meet.

Members of the Wagner family appeared in Pike County Common Pleas Court for sentencing today, after taking plea deals related to their involvement in the 2016 massacre of eight members of the Rhoden family.

Jake Wagner had agreed to serve eight consecutive life sentences without parole, plus up to 160 years on other charges.

Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said Matthew Livelsberger, a 37-year-old Green Beret, likely planned a more damaging attack but the steel-sided vehicle absorbed much of the force from the crudely built explosive.
