Braden Smith joined Purdue's 1,000 point club in Thursday night's game against Minnesota. He entered the game needing just three points to reach the milestone.

In the blink of an eye, the Rockets were down 28-14. Sparked by Smith and Kaufman-Renn and ending with Loyer's three-point play, Purdue went from down two to doubling up Toledo in a span of 8:04. The Rockets went 1-of-12 shooting during that span.

When comparing Smith’s production in Purdue’s three losses against that in the eight victories, two things jump out. First, while he’s shooting 88.5% at the free throw line in the victories, he has attempted no free throws in the three losses.

But Smith and the offense settled in, as the Boilermakers turned a 12-all tie into a 31-16 lead over 7 minutes in the first half. During the 19-4 run, Smith scored 9, plus twice assisted on Fletcher Loyer 3-point plays.

Braden Smith scored a career high 34 points. But he didn't lose his role as a facilitator for Purdue in doing so. Can that carry into Big Ten play?
