BRONX, N.Y. -- Massachusetts basketball (7-11, 2-3 A-10) won a triple overtime thriller, 120-118, at Fordham (8-10, 0-5) on Wednesday night at Rose Hill Gymnasium. It is the first triple overtime game for Massachusetts since Jan. 8, 2005 against Xavier.

Ten players fouled out as UMass and Fordham combined for 122 free throw attempts and 79 personal fouls, and UMass guard Rahsool Diggins scored a program-record 46 points.

UMass beat Fordham 120-118 in triple overtime in a game that produced a parade of stats you don’t see every night, or every week, or every month.

Rahsool Diggins scored a program-record 46 points and UMass matched its highest point total in prevailing against Fordham on Wednesday night, a game that also featured 122 combined free throw attempts and 79 personal fouls.

Diggins etched himself into the record books with a monstrous 46-point performance in a 120-118 triple-overtime Minutemen (7-11, 2-3 Atlantic-10) victory. This total passes the previous record of 44 points set by Luwane Pipkins on Jan. 10, 2018.

In what will go down as one of the best games in UMass men’s basketball and Atlantic 10 history, the Minutemen somehow, some way overcame sickness, foul trouble and 39 team fouls to defeat Fordham 120-118 in a triple-overtime marathon that lasted nearly four hours on the 100th anniversary of Rose Hill Gymnasium in the Bronx on Wednesday night.
