The White House claimed victory in a showdown with Colombia over accepting flights of deported migrants from the U.S. on Sunday, hours after President Donald Trump threatened steep tariffs on imports and other sanctions on the longtime U.S. partner.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced his government had turned away two flights of Colombian nationals who had been in the U.S. illegally.

The President of Colombia has proposed sending a government plane to the United States to bring back Colombian citizens deported from the USA, CNN reports. Previously, the authorities in Bogotá had refused to accept American planes carrying illegal Colombian migrants.

Hours after denying the touchdown of two American deportation flights in the country, Colombia has now taken a U-turn. Colombian President Gustavo Petro offered his presidential plane to repatriate migrants from the United States which is on an aggressive mission to expulse illegal migrants soon after the regime change at the White House.
