The restaurant chains hiked prices for menu items containing eggs earlier this year as shortages from to bird flu outbreaks pushed the cost of a dozen eggs to a record high in March.

Some look to Waffle House to gauge how bad a storm will be. Now it seems the chain is also giving hints about egg prices nationwide.

In February, Waffle House instituted a 50-cent egg surcharge at all of its 1,900 locations because of the rising costs of eggs. Denny’s surcharge varied by location. Waffle House ended its surcharge June 2, while Denny’s ended it May 21.
