Google will add its artificial intelligence-powered assistant Gemini into Google Maps, making it possible for drivers to get answers to more complex questions.

Cars with Google built-in are getting a new Google Maps feature that will tailor navigation based on the lane you're driving in.

Google Maps knows the routes that you frequent. Especially when you're already on a trip, it knows the roads you will take. Knowing that information, it can now give you proactive notifications about disruptions on the road, including alers about unexpected closures, heavy traffic jams, accidents, and more.

Google Maps integrates Gemini AI with landmark-based directions, visual Lens tools and proactive alerts, navigation just got conversational.

With that, Google states Maps will inform you to "turn right" at the gas station up ahead or, perhaps, it'll name the nearest restaurant, so you're better informed on when to turn. This "landmark-based" navigation is rolling out to Android and iOS devices today (Nov 5).

Drivers navigating traffic on their morning commutes will be able to do much more than just find directions and the nearest gas station on Google Maps.
