An effort to expand the hours 14- and 15-year-old employees in Ohio can work was stymied Wednesday after Republican Gov. Mike DeWine vetoed a bill passed with overwhelming GOP support.

In an unusual move, Republicans and Democrats in the Senate agreed Tuesday evening to pass the bill as soon as it was sent over from the House, which had passed it 427-1 earlier in the day.

COLUMBUS—The Ohio State Senate passed Senate Bill 34, introduced by State Sen. Terry Johnson, R-McDermott, which would require public schools to display what supporters describe as founding historical documents in social studies and history classrooms.

The “Strategies To Eliminate Waste and Accelerate Recycling Development (STEWARD) Act,” S. 351, led by Senate Environment and Public Works Chair Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and ranking member Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), passed by unanimous consent before last week’s recess.

Members of the Senate Environmental and Natural Resources Committee voted unanimously for the measure ( SB 302 ), which “promotes the use of nature-based solutions to strengthen Florida’s coastal resiliency,” according to Miami Republican Sen. Ileana Garcia, the bill’s sponsor.
