Meta may be releasing new Oakley-branded smart glasses later this year, according to a new Bloomberg report. The Oakley-branded glasses, internally referred to as “Supernova 2”, would be based on the brand’s Sphaera glasses.

Meta Platforms Inc. is working on upgrades to its popular smart glasses and is exploring new wearable devices such as watches and camera-equipped earbuds, aiming to embed its artificial intelligence features into more products.

According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, along with Oakley-branded smart glasses, Meta’s devices group, Reality Labs, is also planning to release new high-end glasses with a built-in display late this year. Also on the development list are said to be other products that would compete with Apple Inc.’s smartwatch and Airpods.

Meta is pushing into augmented reality and AI-driven computing, despite years of mixed results in the wearable space. While its Ray-Ban smart glasses have gained traction, broader consumer adoption has been slow.
