Central Texas county officials and TxDOT are hitting the road warning residents and preparing roads for harsh icy winter weather expected to hit on the weekend.

Large swathes of Texas are likely to experience freezing conditions in January, and a new report from KHOU meteorologist Pat Cavlin raises the possibility of snowfalls across the Lone Star State—some potentially occurring as far south as the Houston area.

Residents are asking "when is it going to snow in Texas" as a strong cold front makes it way amid an arctic blast bringing a possible snow storm.

A cold front arriving in the region on Sunday could bring snow flurries to Houston-area residents next week. "Winter, for the next week at least, is going to feel like winter around here," meteorologist Eric Berger wrote on Space City Weather.
