An investigation by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment has found that Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly and others violated state law during a union election process earlier this year.

Colorado’s labor department has determined Douglas County, from the sheriff’s office to the board of commissioners, violated state labor practices by allegedly attempting to influence votes during a union election process earlier this year.

When the Douglas County Sheriff's Office found out its deputies were considering unionizing, it launched an all-out campaign to try and convince them not to. The sheriff posed for campaign posters in uniform.

Douglas County officials violated state labor laws by discouraging employees to vote on forming a union with the state’s Fraternal Order of Police, according to a letter from the CDLE.
