Disruption is continuing at Gatwick Airport for a fourth day after heavy fog affected flights in one of the busiest periods of the year. Some restrictions due to adverse weather remain in place, the airport said.

It follows two days of disruption at the UK’s busiest airports, with Saturday’s flights at Stansted Airport affected by the murky conditions, while live departure boards showed delays at Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick and Manchester Airports.

Flights to everywhere from Belfast and Tenerife to Kraków, Poland, and Accra, Ghana, have been delayed by as much as an hour and a half this morning. Live arrivals boards also show slight delays to incoming flights. According to the monitoring website FlightStats, the delays are ‘excessive and increasing’.

Fog is continuing to disrupt flights at Gatwick Airport with restrictions imposed to maintain safety. On what is expected to be the airport's busiest day of the Christmas period, it said some flights "may be delayed throughout the day" due to "poor visibility" and apologised to customers.

Tens of thousands of passengers have had their Christmas travel disrupted in recent days as thick fog has descended on airports.

Operations are “returning to normal” at Gatwick after four days of fog-related flight restrictions, airport bosses said.

More than 20 flights planned for the West Sussex airport on Monday were cancelled in advance and passengers are being warned of delays throughout the day.
