The team announced the extension Tuesday afternoon, with owner and president Mark Wilf calling O'Connell an "innovative play caller, an excellent communicator, and strong leader."

Vikings owner and president Mark Wilf said in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune last month that ownership was “looking forward to a great future” with both Adofo-Mensah and O'Connell. During training camp, Wilf told reporters the Vikings preferred to wait until the conclusion of the 2024 season to talk contracts.

As they compiled a 34-17 record (.667) from 2022 to 2024, the Vikings had 107 starts from players drafted during that period. It was the NFL's second-lowest total over that time frame, according to ESPN Research.
