From where he’s been to where he's arrived, Guerschon Yabusele’s path to NBA success hasn’t been a short trip.
Already without Joel Embiid, the Philadelphia 76ers were also without Paul George for Wednesday’s game against the Wizards. Things got a bit tricky as Washington mounted a rally during the fourth quarter, but the 76ers held on partially due to the play of SG/SF Kelly Oubre Jr. (35%) and PF/C Guerschon Yabusele (14%).
Tyrese Maxey scored the go-ahead basket with 23.7 seconds left and finished with 29 points to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 109-103 win over the Washington Wizards.
The Wizards, without their starting backcourt of Jordan Poole and Malcolm Brogdon, gave Butler a chance and he seized upon it, posting a career night.
Guerschon Yabusele came up with a huge block late as the Sixers’ barely hung on to beat the worst team in the NBA Wednesday.
The Sixers were able to grow a lead largely because they crushed Washington in the turnover battle. At one stage, the Sixers had 25 points off turnovers to the Wizards’ three. Caleb Martin (three blocks, one steal) and Oubre (two steals, two blocks) were both productive in the turnover-forcing department Wednesday.

The Philadelphia 76ers mishandled a 16-point lead but prevailed, 109-103, against the Washington Wizards with plenty of help from Guerschon Yabusele in Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday. The 29-year-old French forward went for 21 points with 6/11 field goals, including five three-pointers.
The competition was not anything to write home about, but for these Sixers, a win is a win 10 times out of 10 -- even if it should have come more easily.
In the end, the Sixers would narrowly avoid a complete collapse and walk out with a 109-103 victory. This win was sealed by fan favorite Guerschon Yabusele, who came up with a big block on Bilal Coulibaly in the final seconds when Philly was only up two.
The product inside the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday was the effects of load management, injuries and tanking. The contest was exciting. But the 76ers and Washington Wizards were both shells of themselves in a game far from the NBA standard.
