For Ohio State, Ed Terwilliger, the director of high school relations, and a few other staff have been out on the trail keeping tabs on the 2026, 2027 and 2028 classes. Earlier in the month, despite position coaches not being on the road, a myriad of offers went out to a handful of prospects.

Ohio State ’s Ryan Day, Texas’ Steve Sarkisian, Notre Dame ’s Marcus Freeman and Penn State ’s James Franklin are the final four. None has won a national championship as a head coach, making this season the third out of the last four in which the title will go to a head coach who has never won one.

He’s the third-winningest coach in all of College Football with three national championships. Now, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December of 2025.
