A Delta flight from Spain to New York made an emergency landing in the Azores after an engine problem midflight.

A Delta jet experienced engine problems on what was supposed to be a trans-Atlantic flight and landed on an island in the middle of the ocean, leading to a more than 31-hour delay, officials said Thursday.

Delta Flight 127, which departed Madrid, Spain diverted to the volcanic island of Terceira in the Azores. Passengers were stranded 29 hours there.
