When news broke that Shaq Barrett, the one-time sack leader who retired from the NFL shortly after signing with the Miami Dolphins earlier this year, wanted to return to the field and hit the post-trade deadline free-agent market, it felt like a certified long-shot.

The door is open for veteran edge rusher Shaq Barrett to play before the 2024 season is over. The Dolphins waived Barrett off of the reserve/retired list on Thursday and he would not be eligible to play if claimed because he was on the retired list.
