When news broke last week that Alvin Kamara would be a New Orleans Saints team captain for the remainder of the season, it was easy to wonder why he wasn’t already a captain. He’s one of the faces and biggest leaders on the team.

After the Saints fired coach Dennis Allen last week, one of interim coach Darren Rizzi’s first acts was to make sure he could get players to still buy in. And he quickly found that commitment in Kamara — which is why Rizzi decided to name him a team captain on Saturday, a day before his record-breaking performance.
