Julia Garner is set to star in Apartment 7A, a prequel to one of the best horror movies of all time — 1968’s Rosemary’s Baby. The movie hits the 2024 movie calendar on September 27 and will be available to stream with a Paramount+ subscription.

While it has its moments, Rosemary's Baby prequel Apartment 7A is never quite up to its aspirations and unforgivable misses its marks.

The Natalie Erika James-directed feature, which counts John Krasinski among its producers, follows a struggling dancer whose relationship with an older couple takes a twisted turn.

James can shoot with effusive competence (see "Relic"). This film sleepwalks as a routine horror prequel clinging to classic nostalgia, unlike how "The First Omen" nailed the formula mere months ago.

It doesn't blow open or reinvent the "Rosemary's Baby" mythology, but it's a decent primer to attract younger audiences back to the 1968 classic film. Terry is played by the ever superb "Ozark" triple Emmy winner Julia Garner,

Apartment 7A does not blindly follow in the footsteps of Rosemary's Baby and has its own story to tell. Sadly, the horror remains undercooked.

Like this year’s The First Omen, Apartment 7A is a prequel to an iconic horror movie – in this case, Satanic classic Rosemary’s Baby (1968) – that fleshes out, to some degree, the world of its predecessor-slash-successor.
