Beginning July 1, the Army’s new Operational Camouflage Patterned uniforms will go on sale at Military Clothing Sales Stores, marking a new chapter in the service’s camouflage saga.

The camouflage pattern for the Army Combat Uniform has since changed at least two times, starting with the Operation Enduring Freedom, or Multicam, pattern in 2010.

The new OCP is very similar to MultiCam, the pattern the Army chose in 2010 for soldiers to wear in Afghanistan. Army officials maintain however that there are differences between the two designs.

While only Rangers are eligible to wear the MultiCam uniform in garrison, the Army is on track to field uniforms and equipment bearing the new OCP camo in summer 2015, Conway said.

When the 2014 NDAA prevented that, Crye assumed the Army would simply use the large manufacturing base that had been built up for Multicam products over the years to purchase uniforms.
