ATLANTA — Over 20,000 people came to the Carter Center for President Jimmy Carter's public visitation, which ended Tuesday morning. According to the Carter Center, 22,950 visitors came to honor the 39th president during the visitation period, which began Saturday evening.

After the funeral, Carter will return to Georgia to be buried in his hometown of Plains, next to his beloved wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter. After Carter's family disembarked the plane, his casket was carried from the plane and transferred to the hearse.
