Sep 1, 2024 · It kind of works out. Originally, I wasn't planning on doing the Rob Cosman shooting board with the bow in the middle, but I might as well take advantage of the bowed sheet now. At best I'll have a functional shooting board. At worse, I learned something new and the board didn't completely go to waste.

Jan 12, 2015 · The surface (a type of plastic I assume) reduces the friction. MDF would work for flatness, but maybe someone can recommend a specific product with a surface like Paul recommends. I would take a look at a video by Rob Cosman. He uses an mdf shooting board and the way it is designed only the "cheeks" of the plane run on the mdf.

May 6, 2014 · At times it gets a little sketchy balancing the plane on the edge of the shooting board when I'm shooting pieces wider than 12". I've been considering switching over to a Tim Rousseau style shooting board. Or at least setup a poor man's shooting board like shown by Matt Estlea for people without shooting boards. Anyway back on topic.

Case in point is his certainty that a 4 or 5 plane was developed for adolescents in apprenticeships, and that the 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 are much more appropriate for adult males. Well, maybe if you've got thick muscled hands.

Jun 30, 2020 · Project Information. I recently finished my Rob Cosman design workbench. The top is 3 layers of 1" MDF and the frame is laminated layers of 5/8" baltic birch. On the end is a Sjobergs adjustable vise. The plans are from Rob Cosman. He uses this design for his training classes and Purple Heart Project.

I'm not a big fan of his tool promotions personally, I find them somewhat gimmicky and overpriced. Bad Axe has a solid following and makes a quality product.
